YSL's Fall Fetish

This latest collection from Yves Saint Laurent, fronted by darling of the fashion world Cara Delevingne, mixes autumn's hottest shades with the season's new beauty favourite: texture.

The Black Fetish Collection by YSL was inspired by leather - the most fetish inspiring materials - and contains a range of colours and textures that not only go perfectly with this theme but are also spot on trend for this autumn/winter. The palette for the range as a whole is extremely autumn-y, containing gorgeous navy blues, rich raspberry reds and earthy browns and golds.

The campaign, fronted by Miss Delevingne, encompasses the black leather fetish theme and sees the model wearing a sultry, risqué blend of the line, in a very sultry, ruqué pose. Who's feet are those!

However, not many of us could get away with such stong eyes and lips combined so this collection is best worn with one statement at a time. The palette can be worn in layers all at once as a more nighttime look or in parts for a more subtle version during the daylight hours. Full on lips and eyes is quite an extreme look so, in my opinion, it's best to mix and match with the different lip and eye colours in this range. The liners, in navy and grey, give a great taste of the tones without looking too overboard and suit the collection of red to raspberry lips available with this range perfectly.

The Couture Palette Collector Fetiche (€55), above, is probably the highlight of this line and contains the strongest colours of not only this collection but also of the season ahead as a whole. Gold and blue tones were extremely prominent this past summer and this look has progressed into autumn with darker versions of these shades complementing the fading days and autumn wardrobe.

I tried out two items from this collection (below): the very interesting textured nail polish, La Laque Couture No 53, Taupe Grainé (€24) and Eyeliner Baby Doll No 18, Bleu Patine (€31). These two in particular go along with the textured theme; the varnish is grainy like earth and the liner is glossy like leather.

Although both are a little on the pricey side, the difference is made up by sheer quality. From the get-go both apply like a dream. One coat can almost do with the varnish; two coats give you nails that won't chip for at least a week which is pretty impressive from my experience.

I was a little confused about the idea of texture - a very, very now phenomenon in makeup, especially nails; Alexa Chung just released a whole range of the same with Nails Inc in the past couple of weeks - but once I had the varnish on I kind of loved it, on fingers and toes. If you got a little colour from the sun over the summer the greyish brown of this polish goes perfectly with a warm-toned skin. And the glory of the colour, which looks many times nicer than it sounds, is that it goes with almost anything, but really strengthens with navy blues, golds, greens and reds.

As much as I loved the nail polish - which I've been wearing non-stop for several weeks now - the navy blue eyeliner really is the piece de resistance for me. The colour is just magnificent, a dark blue metallic shade that is so striking and will bring out different strengths with every eye colour. I've never been too keen on anything on the blue spectrum since my eyes are green and brown, but I really realised how foolish this was as soon as I popped on this liner. It makes the green in my eyes so much more prominent and really makes your eyes look bigger.

The texture is glossy and sleek like the leather it's inspired by and the very thin paintbrush style applicator allows you to apply this striking shade with one sweep, it gives you such surprisingly good control. For a thicker line like the one I've used in these shots you can build it up gradually to your own taste. A thin line works great during the day, stays on perfectly, and it can be thickened very easily for a more nighttime look.

Yves Saint Laurent's Black Fetish Collection is a sultry, sexy, striking range of extremely high quality makeup that is made to last all day and make an impact. I would absolutely love everything in this range to be quite honest but, if I had to chose, this eyeliner makes application a dream and is such a striking look and, like any YSL palettes I've ever come across, the gorgeous navy, brown and gold eye palette is a little piece of art and is definitely on my want list.

I've found that even if you add just one YSL product to your makeup bag, the quality and effectiveness of the product can really lift any makeup collection or look. The brand is classic and constantly lauded for a reason. It's always on top of the trend and always the highest of quality.

The YSL Black Fetish Collection is now available at YSL counters nationwide.
