Established by John Adams, Article has been operating for four years now - 18 months in a different venue - and has been growing ever since. When the opportunity came up to base the shop in the stunning rooms of the Powerscourt building Adams jumped at the chance to bring the business to such an apt location which still displays the original high plaster ceiling - that can be seen in the image above - which dates back to about 1780.
Adams was certainly not a newcomer to the game and originally managed the Habitat franchise in Ireland and, when that closed its doors, he brought his immaculate taste and sensibilities to put together his own collection of products which has happily been growing ever since.
My attention was brought to the shop originally having been given gifts on two occasions in a short space of time from the shop's Rob Ryan collection, which I absolutely love, so I was drawn immediately to finding more from the designer and in doing so found so much more than I could have imagined on the shelves of this store.
Entering the spacious and grand shop it's immediately apparent that there is a very wide variety of carefully chosen, beautifully designed stock to choose from so I spoke to Mr Adams about the treasures that make the shop that bit special: "We focus on tableware, decorative accessories and stationery with a contemporary bias though we mix this with some mid-century vintage furniture from Noel McEntee by Design to create a warm and welcoming environment." Which, in my opinion, is done to great success so much so that when you find yourself strolling around the shop it's hard to remember you're actually in the middle of the busy city centre.
It is very obvious the moment you step into Article that it is a shop stocked with great care and owner Adams clearly loves what he does so I asked what he likes best about owning such an interesting establishment: "I think my favorite part of the job is sourcing the stock but it's also great to be in the shop on a Saturday afternoon chatting to the customers and seeing what people choose to buy!"
As an added bonus Article has just opened an online store at http://articledublin.com but, if you get the chance, I would highly recommend treating yourself to a peruse of the beautiful building and surround yourself with the perfectly tasteful and wonderfully diverse stock in a calm and tranquil environment.
