Smoky and the Palette: Urban Decay's Naked Smoky Palette

If you are a girl, or boy, that wears makeup the chances are the announcement of the launch of this, Urban Decay's Naked Palette number four, the Naked Smoky Palette, caused you at least a little to a great deal of excitement. And you were not the only one...

These palettes are the makeup version of Beatlesmania - Nakedmania! People go just wilder and wilder for these with every release. This time Debenhams in Ireland had and 8000-strong waiting list a week before the release and were opening their doors extra early on the morning of the launch to accommodate the huge demand. So, here's a look at what all the fuss is about.

Naked Smoky is the first Naked Palette with a bit of a difference. For a range that has been lauded for its natural tones it was a big move going down the smoky route but, for my personal taste anyhow, this is by far my favourite of all of the Naked range. You can still go very natural with this palette and then build it up to be as daring as you'd like.

As you can see with the close up above there are about six pretty neutral and naked shades that can either be used to create an entire nude and naked look or can be used as a base to layer a bolder, smokier look. Even among the selection of smoky colours there aren't any dark blacks or charcoal greys but rather smoky blues, navies and purples that can create such a striking but slightly more subtle than your average smoky look. The inclusion of sparkier, and more shimmery shades is another welcome addition and really set off both a lighter but glamorous shimmery daytime look and a sparkly nighttime look too.

Another immediate draw was the double-sided brush which is such great quality and with the small and larger sizes it's perfect for creating a proper contoured, layered look. It's unfortunately often the case that the brushes that come with palettes are unfortunately often lacklustre and you have to end up getting your own but it was pointed out by so many MUAs and beauty writers at the launch of this palette what an excellent brush came with it.

Overall the Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette lives up to all of the expectatations of the many, many makeup lovers that were looking forward to its release so much. The selection of shades is amazing and you can actually create dozens of looks with it; the quality and stay all day capapbilities of the product itself are excellent and the whole package gives you plenty of bang for your buck. I always pop it into my bag wherever I got and find it partilarly good as a product to help me transition a day time look into an evening look all in the one palette.

Another classic in the makeup lover's collection!

Urban Decay's Naked Smoky Palette retails at €46 and is available as of today, August 6th from Debenhams nationwide and House of Fraser.
